BMT awarded TechStart Funding to advance new Blow Moulding Simulation Software

BMT have been successfully awarded Proof of Concept Funding to advance the development of their innovative 'Pre-View' software. ‘Pre-View’ is an online simulation product for the Injection Stretch Blow Moulding (ISBM) plastic bottle industry. Due to the complexities involved in the ISBM processes during the production of plastic bottles, advanced simulation of this technology has been previously unattainable by industry. However, Blow Moulding Technologies (BMT) have created a breakthrough in the simulation technology. 

 

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is the dominant material for the manufacture of plastic bottle containers for the soft drink industry.  PET bottles are responsible for 66% of the PET packaging market and play the most important role in the global consumption of PET.  Almost 500 billion PET plastic bottles were sold in 2016 representing 14% share in the overall global packaging industry. PET is a growing market with a 2016 growth rate of 3.2%. This is expected to rise to approx. 800 billion by 2020.

 

The Pre-View solution developed by BMT is a ground-breaking scientific approach into the effect of process conditions on PET bottles during the ISBM formation. Pre-View allows the specific process to be assessed virtually without the need for machine time, manpower and moulds.  The availability of such technology via an online cloud-based portal is highly unique to allow ease of access, sharing and collaboration.

 

Pre-View will allow accurate predictions of how the bottles will perform during mass production.  Design engineers, technical centres, brand owners, R&D centres and bottle converter companies will use ‘Pre-View’ to minimize physical prototyping and improve the quality, understanding and knowledge of the process.
