Modelling Mechanical Behaviour of Poly (L-Lactic Acid) for the Manufacture of Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffold.


Bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) made by poly (l-lactic acid) (PLLA) has many advantages over the traditional metallic. However, the application of PLLA BVS in clinical experience is restricted due to its bigger size from the weak mechanical properties of polymeric material. In order to decrease the strut thickness of PLLA BVS, stretch blow moulding method is adopted in the manufacturing process to induce the orientations molecular chains to improve its mechanical performance. The after-stretch mechanical properties of material is strongly depended on the manufacturing process. So it is very necessary to investigate the mechanical behaviour of PLLA in the stretch blow moulding process and present a reliable constitutive model to predict the deformation behaviour, which will help reduce the time and cost on a large amount of trial-and-error test.
